Since I really don't want the fringe on this Charlotte (despite the fact that mom's turned out so pretty with the fringe), I've spent some time googling and looking at other edge treatments bloggers have used on their Charlotte's Web shawls. That's one of the great things about knit blogs - they provide such a wonderful repository of ideas, finished objects, visual examples, tips, and tricks.
In truth, while I turned up many bloggers "thinking" about what kind of edging to use, I didn't turn up many specifics regarding alternate options.
The ruffly edge I pointed out the other day is still a contender, especially since she kindly sent me the info on how she did it. Alternately, here is a simple inverted shell Annie used that caught my attention for its quiet yet elegant simplicity (click on the "close up of the crochet edging link"). I'd have to see if the library has a copy of the book for that pattern, however, since I don't know off-hand how to create an inverted shell like that.
On a non-knit note... can anyone fill me in on last night's season finale of Gilmore Girls? Our DVD was set to tape, but something happened, and it didn't work. So, we know the promo was saying someone asked someone to "marry me," but we don't know what happened.

I like the other edging option too! Simple and elegant.
I missed GG too, but I heard that Lorelai proposed to Luke at the very end of the show. The show ended before Luke had a chance to answer.
Here's the GG's update:
Rory stole the yacht. Lor picked her up at the police station and although she was upset, she didn't punish Rory in any way.
Rory daydreamed through her last final and then told Lor over coffee at Westin's that she's not going back to Yale because Mitchum told her that she sucks (or that was the jist anyway). Rory totally insulted Lor by telling her that "you don't understand because you didn't go to college."
I hate her.
Lor was getting wooed by the folks who want to buy the inn. When Luke found out and heard that there was traveling involved he asked "what about the kids?" Then he told Taylor that he wanted out of the contract to buy the Twickam house.
Lor went to Emily and Richard and asked for their help to make Rory stay in school. They agreed to triple team her at Friday Night Dinner after Lor told them how badly the Huntzbergers treated Rory.
Rory went to Richard bawling about how everything is falling apart and he told her everything would be okay.
When Lor showed up for Friday Night Dinner, Emily and Richard totally stabbed her in the back by telling her that they were supporting Rory in her decision to take time off from Yale. She was moving into the Pool House and they are going to have one of their friends hook her up with a job.
Lauren Graham played the last 10 minutes of the show beautifully. There was a great scene where Lor stands outside the pool house watching Rory unpack their books while the song I Think It's Going To Rain Today played.
Lor then went to Luke's. She told him that Rory is quitting Yale and that her parents turned on her. Luke turned into the ranting lunatic that we all know and love and starting coming up with ideas of how they can make Rory stay in school. Again Lauren Graham's acting was amazing in this scene. Her face got all serious and contemplative and then she smiled and said "Luke, will you marry me?"
Luke looked surprised and said "what?" and then they jumped to the credits.
It was a very good episode. Seems like the WB ran the episode over by 2 minutes though because most everyone's tivo cut off the end. Luckily I wasn't recording anything afterward so I was able to rewind the live tv and see the end. I started watching it about 20 minutes late so I could ff through the commercials.
