Finding Focus

Amy Creative Journey | Photography

I was waiting while one of my kids got a haircut recently, and the succulents just outside the window caught my eye. It was a tough lighting scenario for an old phone though. I tried to make the phone pick up the right exposure, but none of the photos was able to capture the foreground without blowing out the background (or vice versa).

Looking at these three photos, however, was really interesting because they each show something very different, have a different feel, and convey a different tenor. In the one photo, the building across the street becomes an integral part of the photo, but not in the others.

Ultimately, none of these photos captured the scene; none is worth keeping. But they were interesting to consider and a great example. How you frame and what you include in your composition (and lighting) makes a big difference in what you see.
