Episode 246: Quotidian
Above: one of my Index-Card-a-Day Challenge drawings from this summer, in ballpoint and based on a photo at Sktchy. The book is Page by Paige, the graphic novel discussed in this episode.

Episode 246 of the CMP, a Creativity Matters Podcast

In this episode of the CMP, succulents in the morning light, bits of dirt, a Hopper painting at the theater, the quest for community and “real” connections and “real” talk, a drawing of a family member, and a graphic novel about a young artist finding herself and her voice.

[This show takes place a few weeks ago. The days continue to roll and move on! There are now less than 2 weeks left in this summer challenge.]

The Flow of Episode 246 (and relevant links):

  • Succulents in the morning light, the flash of “maybe that should be a series,” the awareness of the dirt, and ruminations on “quotidian”
  • Thematic “weeks” of faces spread ahead of me, stretching well beyond the end of the June/July Index-Card-a-Day Challenge
  • Stories at Instagram; stages or process rather than just finished pieces
  • Realization that this new ballpoint exploration has gotten comfortable, has a bit of patina
  • Flower in the sidewalk crack moment
  • On “need” — and the many layers of “connection” creative people might want
  • A U2/Rolling Stones moment
  • Being human is always a risk
  • The things that are saving my life right now. (Modern Mrs. Darcy blog)
  • A “from the road” recording about drawing a family member
  • Tip of the hat to fantastic ICAD prompts
  • Page by Paige by (Laura Lee Gulledge) (graphic novel – LOVE!) [I mispronounced the author’s name; I had it written in my notes incorrectly as “Le” rather than “Lee” – sorry!]
  • The Quotidian Mysteries: Laundry, Liturgy and “Women’s Work” (Kathleen Norris)
