 Episode 330: Mad Libs

Above: grab a pen because there really is a very brief Mad Libs-style section in the opening minutes!

Episode 330 of the CMP, a Creativity Matters Podcast

In this episode of the CMP, a meandering show recording in the moment of morning…. a book… coffee… a swathe of light… photos from a year ago… cycles and circles… thoughts on Inktober, a Mad Libs moment, and more. This is regular creative talk, the kind that keeps you company while you take a walk or work on your own projects.

I delayed putting this show out. The next one should follow, close on the heels of 330. Inktober though is already well underway and unfolding (literally, in some ways). There are old shows that have plenty of Inktober talk, if you are looking for some drawing-based chatter to have running in your playlist. These shows are linked below.

Mentioned in this Episode:

  • CMP Episode 262 (2017): Inktober — In 2016, I dipped my toes in the water for the first time with portraits and the kind of drawing that has since then become my favorite, especially fueled by the Sktchy app and community.  Episode 262 is the nudge you may need to give a challenge like this a try. Enjoy!
  • CMP Episode 263 (2017): Inktober Shift — last year, as Inktober approached, I shifted out of many, many months of ballpoint and back to ink and fountain pen. Tune in, get inspired, trust the creative process, love what you do, and share your work! Enjoy!
  • CMP Episode 265 (2017): Inktober Week 1 — lots of nitty-gritty about the first week of Inktober 2017… from a specific pen to the sketchbook I was using. I also had the benefit last October of working in the same space with another friend doing Inktober. It can be a lot of fun to partner up with someone and choose a challenge photo each day that you BOTH draw.
  • CMP Episode 204: Mid-October (2016)— creative talk during Inktober 2016.  Sktchy (app) and Inktober made a huge difference for me.
  • CMP Episode 202: Inktober (2016) — I had no idea at the time that I would find my own #creative zen in drawing people and portraits. That #Inktober was the start for me… and part of a road back to my creative work and creative self. We may lose our way many times, but there is always a way back…. sometimes it takes a single drawing.

  1. Great show! I agree that ‘pencil’ may not be exciting to most, or even to many, but THAT is a challenge month I would definitely do. “For every pot, there’s a lid.”

I have a freshwater aquarium and always have at least 5 or 6 Nerite snails in the tank. Nerite snails do not / cannot reproduce in freshwater, only in brackish water, so you would not have a snail tank within weeks! But, they love algae, keeping the tank glass clean requiring no special or in fact any other attention. And they can be found with very beautiful, striking shell patterns, too. Just sayin’.

    1. A great suggestion… we’ve talked about snails before but have, indeed, never tried them! Thank you, as always, for commenting and for listening!
